South African Miss Plus Size model, Dipolelo Alice Hou, broke into uncharted waters when she bagged three titles at the 2018 Miss Plus World contest held in Atlanta Georgia from 25-27 July.
The 35-year old Botshabelo-born, Hou shrugged off the challenge of 14 other contestants to land the Miss Plus World Ambassador; Miss Photogenic as well as Miss Pantywear titles. Another South African, Puleng Direko (41), was judged third runner-up in the Miss Plus Intercontinental Ambassador.
“As Miss South Africa Plus World, we are excited that our girls represented the country. This also seeks to change the perception that pageants are meant to traffic people. On 27 October, we will be hosting the grand finale of Mrs South Africa Plus World and the winners will get the opportunity to represent the country in Texas next year. We are still having six slots for married or single plus size ladies from the age of 41 to be part of the finalists for the intercontinental category,” Chief Leeuw, the National Director for Miss South Africa Plus World.
Free State Department of Art, Sport, Culture and Recreation MEC, Mathabo Leeto, has congratulated Hou for her feat. Hou currently works as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the MEC.
“On behalf of the department, I wish to congratulate Ms. Hou for winning several prizes at the Miss Plus World beauty pageant. These titles add to several other titles she has previously won and the department is immensely proud of her achievements. She is a valued staff member of DSACR and she serves as a beacon of hope and a great source of inspiration for many women in our country, young and old. Her determination and self-confidence are attributes which have seen her rising above the rest,” said Leeto.
Kristy Wells of Terrel, Texas was the overall winner of the Miss Plus World with Chakiva Latrell of Atlanta, Georgia becoming the Ms Plus Intercontinental.
